The landed estate of S. Maria di Canneto in August 1619

As will be remembered, it was aggregated with other parish benefices of the diocese to the seminary of Sora since June 1569 for the support of the pious institute. From the inventory of the real estate of this church, compiled in August 1619 by d. Giulio Annichino, archpriest of Settefrati, and transcribed in the “Green Book” of the diocesan archives, we learn for the first time in the history of the sanctuary the towns and their districts (microtoponyms), where these goods were
localised.

As many as 64 plots of land were located in the territory of Settefrati; two vegetable gardens and a small house in Settefrati centre; one piece of land in S. Donato V.C. (Castagneto) and another in Gallinaro (Rio); some olive trees were located in Picinisco in two different sites and others in Posta (Posta Fibreno) in three different sites.

From this it can be deduced that almost all the properties of the church of Canneto were located in the territory of Settefrati and therefore they came from the great hearts of those inhabitants, who from remote ages, as is clear here, were deeply devoted and munificent towards the shrine, which Providence had placed within the borders of their country.

Indeed, the document of August 1619 is the oldest, most splendid and convincing testimony of their unfailing love and attachment to that august temple of the Virgin.
