The Church of Santa Maria della Consolazione (or della Tribuna) is the second-oldest medieval church in Settefrati, after the one dedicated to Saint Stephen the Protomartyr, as evidenced by its bell, which, having fallen and broken in 1900, was recast and restored to its original form, including the inscription bearing the original date: A.D. MCCCXXIII, “the year of the Lord 1323”.
It was originally known as Santa Maria della Tribuna, although the term “della Tribuna” is a later addition to the original title of Santa Maria. Subsequently, the exact and full name became “Santa Maria della Consolazione, commonly known as della Tribuna”. Nothing remains today of the original structure, as the medieval church fell into ruin; rebuilt between 1575 and 1633, this second building also suffered the same fate. The present building, erected near the site of the two previous ones, dates from the early 17th century.
